Media and social media landscape is filled with celebrations around entrepreneurs. Enamoured, many starry eyed young adults copiously consume any content related to founder biographies, interviews, podcasts and startup conferences.
Is entrepreneurship ultimate display of skill and proficiency?
While I think creativity, communication, analytical ability, grit, passion are necessary qualities for entrepreneurship, but they are required in other job roles too. For example, effective PMs, marketers and designers needs to be very creative, similarly successful software engineer need to be highly analytical and passionate.
A VP of design at Tesla cars has 100x impact and makes 100x more money in the world than an average SaaS entrepreneur in bangalore labouring from 0.5M ARR to 2.
But then, why all the noise about entrepreneurs, and not lets say…..Vice Presidents?
Probably because what does path to VP of design doesn’t offer? a shot to be next Steve Jobs or Sam Altman.
For a person, need for entrepreneurship probably stems from something deep emotionally. Either innate, or shaped by early childhood experiences. Which forces one to leave comfortable & stable opportunities, and toil all day hoping for outsized glory or power.
